#2018

This year, the number of fires in industrial halls and production facilities continued to increase. The most significant and unfortunately also the most tragic event of the year was the hotel fire in Náplavní Street.

On Saturday, January 20th, units of Prague professional firefighters went to a reported fire in the air conditioning on the ground floor of a five-storey hotel in Náplavní Street in Prague. Gradually a special alert level was issued at the scene of the intervention. Traffic in the vicinity of the intervention was controlled by the Police of the Czech Republic. The Medical Rescue Service of the City of Prague dispatched a special Atego vehicle to the event and the so-called trauma plan was activated. Despite all efforts and maximum deployment of all members of the Integrated Rescue System, eventually there were 5 deaths and a total of 9 people were injured, 2 of them firefighters. After a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, when model situations were also used, it was found that an unknown person who had thrown a cigarette butt was behind the fire.

Thanks to the very good interaction of the fire units involved with three car ladders and adjustable ladders, through the exterior of the building in total 34 persons were saved. Trough the interior of the building another 4 persons were saved by the help of lead masks and a total of 6 unconscious persons  were carried out and resuscitated. It would not have been possible to achieve this without the cooperation of the Medical Rescue Service of the Capital City of Prague, which had six rescue crews, two medical crews, an inspector, a coroner and a special car Atego at the scene, which is also equipped with oxygen therapy for a larger number of patients.

In the poll of the Fireman of the Year 2018, this intervention won the first place in the category of the intervention of the year and at the same time with this intervention, the Prague firefighters were placed among the three best teams in the international fire competition Magirus Award 2018.
